Sandra was the Publisher at Lands End Publishing, Shortland Publications, and Macmillan Education Australia. During that time she published the following series: Foundations, Wildcats, Kinderstarters (First Links), Word Families, National Geographic Theme Sets (Teachers Choice Award), Fast Track (Fast Zone) (Teachers Choice Award), Springboard, Safari, Take Twos, Learnabouts, and Winners.  Sandra has many publications to her credit including over 200 books for students aged 4-14. She is also author or co-author of the following:

Sandra previously served on the Editorial Review Board of IRA Book Publications. She was also on the Editorial Review Board of The Reading Teacher and the Journal of Balanced Reading Instruction. Sandra has made many presentations at international and national conferences in the US, Canada, UK, Australia, and New Zealand. Sandra has a PhD and a Masters Degree in Education with First Class Honors.
 
She has been a classroom teacher, a Reading Recovery Tutor, and an Advisor on Literacy employed by the New Zealand Ministry of Education. She has taught graduate and undergraduate teachers at the Auckland College of Education and Massey University in New Zealand, and graduate teachers at Rhode Island College, Providence, Rhode Island, U.S.A. Sandra has worked as a literacy consultant in New Zealand and also in California, Wisconsin, Rhode Island, Connecticut, Massachusetts, and Florida.

Sandra was a finalists in the 2014 Woman of Influence Awards.
